Energy & GHG Technology Database and Systems Analysis

Purpose

KEA conducts research on new technology to reduce energy consumption and GHG emission and make comparative analysis with the existing technology. Based on this study, KEA creates a pool of GHG reduction measures including introducing new technology. KEA makes analysis of potential reduction of energy consumption and GHG emission and provide background materials for analysis of potential reduction of energy and GHG using the pool.

History

  • Created the pool that comprise various measures to reduce energy consumption and GHG emission across the sectors
    • (phase 1 & 2) Developed inventories of technologies to reduce GHG and energy consumption categorized by the characteristics and application status of the technologies
    • (phase 3) Created the pool of energy consumption and GHG reduction methods for 17 business areas in industrial and power generating sectors (2011~2012) and for building and transportation sectors (2013)
  • Analyzed potential energy consumption and GHG reduction
    • Introduced MARKAL model, which is an analysis model of ETSATP of IEA, and implemented a research project to analyze potential reduction of energy consumption and GHG emission (2001 ~ 2010)
    • Upgrade MARKAL into TIMES model and developed a new analysis model (2011~2013)
    • Further sophisticated the TIMES model to reflect new policy issues (2014)
Details
Definition
  • KEA provides information on technologies that have potential to reduce energy consumption and GHG emission. The information includes names of the technologies, summary of the features of the technologies, impact of the technologies on energy consumption and GHG emission reduction and usability of the technologies.
  • KEA estimates potential reduction of energy consumption and GHG emission by business and sector using an analysis model.
Targets of the program

Existing and new technologies that could reduce energy consumption and GHG emission and inventories of applicable technologies
